Avedøre Idrætscenter

Avedøre Idrætscenter lies in Avedøre Stationsby in Hvidovre and has been the gathering point for the district's sporting life since 1983. The swimming area holds a 25-metre pool, a paddling pool, a baby pool, a spa, a steam cabin and saunas, and under the same roof are a gym, a ball hall, a gymnastics hall and a large, light foyer. The centre has its own café, and it is only a few minutes' walk from Avedøre Station, with bus route 1A stopping right outside.

Sauna gus at Avedøre Idrætscenter is held in the swimming hall's saunas, and the centre's three regular gus masters run the sessions, each with their own essential oils. A session lasts about an hour, letting the heat and the oils do their work, and iced water is served along the way. The saunas are shared by women and men, so the format suits couples well. You must be 18 or over, pregnant guests cannot take part, and if you have a heart condition you need your doctor's approval. Bring swimwear, bathing shoes, a water bottle and two towels - one to sit on and one to dry yourself with afterwards. The entrance opens half an hour before the session and closes ten minutes before it starts, after which there is no admission.
