Sauna session in Skanderborg

Skanderborg has two sauna venues: the town's new swimming hall with a luxury sauna built for sauna sessions, and a winter-bathing club right on the lake.

Vandvirke sits on Højvangens Torv in the middle of Skanderborg and is built around four pools - a 25-metre pool, a warm-water pool, a multi-pool with a water slide and a children's pool - plus a Kneipp bath, a spa bath and a steam bath. The newly built 35-square-metre sauna seats 35 guests with two powerful stoves and custom light effects, and the regular sauna session is included in the entrance fee and held a few times a week, typically early in the morning, where the sauna host pours essential oils on the hot stones. Alongside the regular session there are also theme evenings such as "6 varme oplevelser" ("6 hot experiences"), where an energetic opening session, a calmer nature-inspired session and a final, dimmed session in near-darkness are spiced up with three steam-bath ceremonies. Between rounds the warm-water pool opens up, and there is water, electrolytes, fruit and snacks along the way. The regular session just needs a walk-in, while the theme evenings must be booked in advance. There is a café and a rooftop terrace upstairs.

Vinterbybadet Skanderborg is the winter-bathing club at Skanderborg Bybad in Byparken, right on Skanderborg Lake. The 19-square-metre sauna looks out over the lake and is lit during opening hours, and steps lead into the water from the pier. The club is for members and guest bathers with a ticket, and every so often it invites non-members to guided sauna sessions with a sauna host - you simply buy a ticket for the time you want.
