Sofiebadet is the listed 1909 public bathhouse in Sofiegade on Christianshavn - the only survivor of three near-contemporary Copenhagen bathhouses. The association behind it reopened the building as a bathing and culture house, and today it works rather like a living museum where you can either take a shower in the high-ceilinged marble cubicles or enjoy a spa visit with sauna, steam room and cold tubs. The signature of the house is the hamam dome in the old boiler room, where treatments follow Middle Eastern tradition with soap foam and scrub. There is a rest room and a small organic café with snacks and drinks, swimwear is required, and Christianshavn metro station is about 200 metres away.
Sauna sessions with us
Our sauna sessions run on Tuesday evenings in Sofiebadet's sauna, where sauna hosts Mette and Thomas bring heat, scents and atmospheric music. The evening lasts two and a half hours, and you move around the house at your own pace between rounds. Besides the session you can use the rest of the spa: the steam room with an organic lavender and grapefruit salt scrub, the cold tubs, and the hamam dome, which is open as a rest room. You can add a Turkish kese and soap scrub in the hamam, or pick up something to eat in the organic café. Swimwear is required, but towels, bathing shoes and shampoo are provided. The sauna sessions run until 1 May and then break for the summer until August.
