Sauna session in Odense

Odense has five sauna venues, ranging from open water to a municipal pool: a purpose-built sauna at the harbour, a wood-fired sauna in Banebyen, a venue with five different session formats, a swimming pool in the centre of town and a health centre in Odense SØ.

Heat Space is Odense's sauna on Byens Ø, right by the water, with a purpose-built sauna for 24 guests. A session lasts around 75 minutes with three rounds of about 12 minutes, where the sauna host works with selected essential oils and themes, and between rounds you cool down in cold tubs, under tipping buckets or in the cold showers. Besides the classic session, there are events that combine the session with a social run or functional training, and exam sessions, where a new sauna host takes their test. There are 130 parking spaces with three hours free.

La Sauna Odense is in Banebyen on Rugårdsvej, in a wood-fired sauna for 33 guests with cold showers right outside the door. A session lasts 75 minutes and consists of three 10-15 minute rounds with a cooling break in between and a relaxed moment in the sauna at the end. The sauna host mixes pure essential oils into water, pours it on the hot stones and spreads the steam with a fan, while music carries the session.

Saunagus Odense is on Gartnervænget, founded by Marcus drawing on sauna traditions from Denmark and Europe, with room for 15 guests. A session lasts around an hour with three 12-15 minute rounds, and the programme is built around fixed formats: Flow, where calm and energy alternate, Signatur, where the sauna host sets their own theme and music, Meditativ with mild heat and reflection, Viking with drums and scents of forest, birch and pine, and High Energy, where the Soundboks joins the sauna. Women-only sessions are also held.

Klosterbakkens Svømmehal is Odense's swimming pool in the city centre, where Odense Idrætspark holds sessions in the sauna. An evening alternates between 4-5 sessions of around 10 minutes, filling the room with heat and essential oils in the scents and moods of the season, with access to a jacuzzi, bio sauna and health cabin along the way. Doors open 19.30-20.15, and massage can be added.

Viking Saunagus is based at Sundhedshuset Engsbye on Hvilehøjvej in Odense SØ, where the health centre runs sauna sessions alongside its treatments and classes. A session is built around three rounds, and in each round the sauna host pours three different essential oils onto the hot stones and spreads the steam with a fan. The programme alternates between HIGH sessions with high energy and DEEP sessions that are calm, meditative and grounding, and between rounds there is an outdoor ice bath and cold showers. Alongside the regular sessions there are themed evenings such as a sauna session with red light meditation, a music journey with eight rounds, and a session followed by tapas. There is free parking at the venue.
