Saunagården

Saunagården sits in the countryside on Nakkedamsvej outside Kirke Hyllinge, where the sauna stands on a large wooden deck looking out over the fields - the venue's own motto is calm, presence and a lovely view. Behind it are Bernt, who built Saunagården and runs sessions with high heat and a focus on being present in the moment, and Rikke, a hairdresser, sexologist and body therapist who gives gentler sessions centred on breathing and self-awareness. Cold plunge tubs and an ice bath are right outside the sauna, and snacks, water and tea are served at every session. Groups are small, with room for ten guests at a time, and there is a shared indoor changing room.

Our sauna sessions run just under two hours and consist of three rounds, each with its own three essential oils, put together in advance. The programme alternates between regular formats: Sunday session with Bernt, with high heat, less talk and more presence; Goodnight session with Rikke, gentler and built around breathing and self-awareness; Sauna session for beginners, for anyone new to the heat; and Friday session/bar, where we celebrate the weekend and finish with a beer for those who fancy one. Between rounds there are cold plunge tubs, snacks, fruit and electrolytes. Bring swimwear, two towels and something warm for the breaks, and arrive ten minutes before we start.
