Tisvilde Stejleplads sits down by the beach in Tisvildeleje, to the left of the jetty among the bathing huts by the tall white flagpole. Here stands a wooden sauna with a wood-burning stove, and only six places are offered at a time, so there is plenty of room on the benches. You cool off in the sea right outside the door, and the gus sessions run through the winter season from 1 October to 31 May. Behind them is Trine Westring of Genvind din styrke, a nurse and coach who works with breathing, the nervous system and calm.
Sauna sessions with us
Sauna gus at Tisvilde Stejleplads takes place in a wood-fired sauna down by the beach with room for six guests and the sea as the cold plunge right outside the door. The programme is the same every time: a breathing gus of three rounds with breaks in between, where guided body scans, meditation and breathing exercises go hand in hand with the heat. Essential oils and deliberate towel work are used as sensory stimulation, and the shift between the heat of the sauna and the cold of the sea is the practical exercise in regulating your own nervous system. A session lasts around two hours. Bring a water bottle, one towel to sit on and one to dry yourself with, a robe and water shoes — swimwear is optional, and there are no changing rooms.
